Sodium hypochlorite, commonly known as bleach, is a chemical compound with the formula NaOCl. Bleach is made from reacting chlorine with sodium hydroxide.
Our customers use sodium hypochlorite when they need to conduct bleaching and sterilization for sanitizing and water purification. In its industrial concentrations, sodium hypochlorite is similar to common household liquid bleach except that the strength is much higher.
In higher liquid concentrations, sodium hypochlorite is a straw yellow liquid that has a characteristic odor of bleach. In solution form, sodium hypochlorite is unstable and easily decomposes, liberating chlorine, which is the active principle of such products.
This chemical’s corrosive properties, common availability, and reaction to other products make it a significant safety risk. If users mix liquid bleach with other cleaning products, such as acids or ammonia, the combination produces toxic chlorine gas.
